The experience of the temperatures and heat stroke over the last couple of weeks has left us a bit shell-shocked.
Most days lately have been getting over 95 (35 deg C) with high humidity, and we are suffering. It is starting to look like we will have to rethink our stated objective of visiting New Orleans, Nashville and around the South. Frankly, we don’t think we can handle it. It wasn’t so bad in Mesa, where the temps were topping of at around 30 with low humidity, but now closer to sea level and warming up, we are starting to get into trouble.
The two alternatives are: go north; or go high. Both options have places that we want to visit: in the north there are Yellowstone, Glacier, Grand Tetons National Parks and the Canadian Rockies; places with some altitude but not so far north are the Colorado Rockies and the photographic “Crown Jewels” of the American southwest, the canyons of Colorado, New Mexico, Utah & Arizona. It may not be as high and cool as some places, but it is on our list and also suits Kasana & Graham when they come to visit us in August. Lots of great photo opportunities and Native American culture to keep us busy.
So that is where we will head for now. Hopefully it won’t be too hot, or we might have to head north instead.
